Acrylic on Mat, Weaving leave Coconut, Fire Ashes,
Sandbeach, Soil

This installation is made on a mat (woven pandanus leaves). In the center is a dry coconut fruit. Coconut is very important in the lives of the people of Vanuatu. On the top of the Coconut, Amelia carved two women dancing. Around the Coconut fruit is soil, fire ashes and sandbeach which represents the elements that links in with the land, fire and saltwater. In the green are traditional patterns from Erromango using woven green Coconut leaves. Those patterns symbolizes “Power”. The portrait of women painted by Carole depicts the power of the generation of Women from North, South, East and West.

Complete installation with Laplap Sosor (traditional pudding from Malekula).

Laplap Sosor is shared by other women to celebrate International Women’s Day.
