Fish and Birds

For a few years I have been exploring the technique of monotypes on paper with a Gelli plate, a soft printing surface made out of gelatin which does not make the use of a press necessary.

I love the recylability and fragility of paper, drawings or paintings on paper rarely become masterpieces, it takes that responsibility away and frees me up to do “small nothings”.

I push the textures and the colours intuitively then I cut them out in simple shapes, fish and birds, staying away from traditional realism, I am using scissors as I would use my brushes.

I enjoy seeing them fly and swim without the boundaries of backgrounds or frames.
