“Ol Mama Oli Singaot”Exhibition

SILHOUETTES – CALLIGRAMS:
« OL WOMAN OLI SINGAOT »

Project carried out in February-March 2021.
Date of first exhibition: March 08, 2021 – Alliance Française (Port-Vila)
for International Women’s Day.

The exhibition was then moved here to Fondation Suzanne Bastien Art Gallery on the 21st of April 2021 to 21st of May 2021 with the theme: “Ol Woman Oli Singaot” or translated as “Women’s Voice”

The silhouettes were made by Carole Réocreux.

The main idea was to have several women from Vanuatu testify on the
status of women.

The calligrams were created from their texts, declarations or poems, as
well as from their profile silhouettes.

Each approached the place of women from their own unique
perspective, whether as a leader, athlete, writer, activist, mother,
daughter, woman, ….

It is also a question of important subjects concerning the condition of
women, in particular the place of a woman in society, how she is
considered, as well as the violences often suffered.

The identity of these women is also reflected in their choices of
language used to convey their message or their story. Thus we find here
many vernacular languages as well as Bislama, English and French.
