This is a traditional mat from Ambae called Sangule used during bridal ceremony. The bride’s father gives her respect to the daughter by veiling her with this mat. The pattern of the sun on the mat means that the bride will now be settling with his groom and will have her own family. Day after day her journey begins like the sun whether it be good or bad she has to accept the circumstances that arises.
